Two Nudes in a Room, 1914 by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
About the artwork
Painted in 1914, this canvas depicts two standing female figures in a vividly colored studio interior, one wearing a wide-brimmed blue hat, set against a background of plants, a carved chair, and the zigzag wall decorations characteristic of Kirchner's Berlin studio. The work belongs to his series of indoor figure paintings from the Berlin period, in which the studio itself becomes an expressive element as charged as the figures within it. The original is held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
