Plan de la baye et ville de Manille, capitale des isles Philippines, située en l'isle de Luçon
About the artwork
This detailed cartographic plan documents Manila Bay and the fortified city of Manila during the Spanish colonial period, when the city served as the principal port of the Spanish East Indies. The plan records Intramuros, the surrounding settlements, and the configuration of the bay, reflecting French geographic interest in the Philippine archipelago during the 17th and 18th centuries. French cartographers of this period frequently drew on Spanish maritime surveys to produce detailed plans of Pacific colonial territories.
