Painted in 1938, the year of Galanda's death, this work depicts a kneeling female figure in warm reds and orange set against a green Slovak landscape with stylized village houses in the background. It is representative of the lyric expressionism that defined his final period.
About the artist
Mikuláš Galanda was a Slovak painter and illustrator and one of the foremost pioneers of Slovak modernism. Working across Expressionist and Cubist influences, he developed a deeply personal style rooted in Slovak landscape, folk culture, and the female figure.
