Almond Blossom, 1890 by Vincent van Gogh
About the artwork
Painted in February 1890 at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, this work was created to celebrate the birth of van Gogh's nephew, Vincent Willem. Branches of an almond tree in early bloom are set against a vivid blue sky, a composition inspired by Japanese woodblock print traditions. The original is housed at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
